Greenwood Alums Return, Bearing Books

In late March five 8th graders at Callanan Middle School – Zoe Zmolek, Claire Bissmeyer, Natalie Bennett and Grace & Ella Sundstrom – launched a project to provide free books for summer reading to all students at their elementary alma mater: Greenwood. United Way and Half Price Books came aboard as sponsors, and today the girls delivered nearly 900 book for every student at their old school. Click the headline to read and see more.

Lt. Gov. Checks Out Greenwood Coders

Greenwood Elementary School’s coding club demonstrated the value of computer science during a press conference today with Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa Department of Education Director Ryan Wise, who spoke about legislation recently signed to encourage computer science education. The star of the press conference, however, was Greenwood’s coding club, a group of more than 75 students who meet after school to work on technology projects.
