My name is Sarah Aldag. I serve as the instructional coach for Greenwood Elementary School. I have been teaching for 14 years, and this is my third year at Greenwood. I have also taught in Waterloo, Waukee, and at Wright Elementary in Des Moines. I earned my bachelors degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and my masters degree as a K-12 Literacy Specialist at the University of Northern Iowa.
I have been an art teacher for Des Moines Public Schools for 25 years I attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics and a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. This will be my 4th year at Greenwood Elementary.I am looking forward to working with all the talented students here at Greenwood again this year . We will be working on an Grand Installation of willow and clay in our front entrance of our school.
This will be Mr. Burke’s fourth year at Greenwood, and his first as part of the 5th grade team. He has taught 3rd and 4th grade, and has served as a literacy coach and math interventionist at different points in his 16 year career. Science and Math are his favorite subjects and he is currently focused on incorporating coding across the curriculum. His favorite things about Greenwood are the caring, supportive community and the dedicated staff.
Pam Carver was born and raised in Nebraska. She graduated for the University of Nebraska at Kearney . Pam is an avid Cornhusker fan! Her entire family was or is in the education field. Her dad was an assistant principal and athletic director and her mom taught English. Her sister currently teaches high school English and French. She has been teaching for over 20 years. She has taught first, second, third, and fifth grade. She has also taught title reading, reading recovery, and 7th grade Religion.
Pam is married and has two children. They live in West Des Moines. Her husband Chris is a field tech for Verizon Wireless. Elise is an 8th grader at Stilwell Jr. High and Jack is a fifth grader at Fairmeadows Elementary School. She loves to watch all of her children’s activities and to work out each morning at 5:00 a.m. at the YMCA with all of her boot camp buddies. She loves all of the great things that kids say each day and enjoys teaching at Greenwood Elementary.
Hi, my name is Mr. Chelleen. I teach Physical Education at Greenwood Elementary. This is my 31st year of teaching. I am a graduate of Luther College. I am married and have 2 children. My wife Shirley, is a nurse at Mercy Hospital. My oldest son Brad, wants to be a commercial pilot and my youngest son Adam, is a student at DMACC. He wants to be a high school Spanish teacher.
My hobbies are participating in and watching all types of sports. My favorite teams are the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. I also enjoy working in my yard.
Hello! I’m Lori Conway and teach special education. This is my 17th year teaching special education, my 16th year for Des Moines Public Schools. All but three years have been at Greenwood. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Special Education and reading from William Penn University. In 2005, I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and instruction. I have two sons ages 28 and 25. I’m proud to be a member of the Greenwood community!
My name is Allison Crowley, and I am in my second year as an educator. I graduated from UNI in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary and Middle Level Education, and endorsements in Math and Science K-8. My sweet spot for teaching is grades 4-6. My favorite subject is Science. I’m a Des Moines native, born and raised. I’m nearly on my tenth year working for Clive Parks and Recreation, coaching, leading camps and swim lessons, and planning youth programs. I love spending my free time reading, traveling with friends and family, and tuning into my creative outlets of music and interior design.
Hello and welcome to 2nd grade! My name is Laura Haider. I have been teaching for 14 years. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in elementary and early childhood education. After completing my time at UNI, I went on to receive my special education endorsement from Upper Iowa University. I continued on my educational journey and received my master’s degree in education from Morningside College. Throughout my years of teaching, 13 of them have been with Des Moines Public Schools here at Greenwood. While at Greenwood, I have taught k-3 special education, kindergarten, and 2nd grade.
My name is Missy Hughes. This is my 12th year as a teacher, and my second year at Greenwood. My first ten years were teaching 4th Grade in Kirksville, Missouri, and last year I taught 2nd grade here in Des Moines. My favorite subject is Reading or Iowa History. I am from Cedar Falls, Iowa, and lived there until 2006, when I moved to Missouri. I’m so glad to be back in Iowa! I got married in May, so you may remember me as Ms. Bartholomew. I have 3 children. Jessy is a senior at UNI, and got married this summer to Micah. Andrew is a sophomore at University of Iowa, and Rachel is a sophomore at Valley High School in West Des Moines. I love spending my free time reading, traveling with family, socializing with my friends, and shepherding youth at church.
I was hired by Des Moines Schools in 1999. I taught first grade at Lovejoy Elementary for four years and have been at Greenwood ever since. I attended the University of Iowa for my undergraduate degree. I have a masters degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Early Childhood and Reading. Kindergarten is the heart of the school and where my heart will always stay!
This will be my 20th year with DMPS, my 16th year at Greenwood teaching third grade. My first four years in the district, I taught kindergarten at Edmunds. My very first year of teaching was in a small farm town in the middle of California teaching in a kindergarten/first grade combination classroom.
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and my masters from Viterbo University. I have 3 children: Olivia, freshman at Valley Southwoods, and twin boys Devan and Damon, 4th grade at Clive Elementary. My husband Cory is a fitness trainer at Fitness World West. In my spare time, Cory and I are busy attending our children’s sporting, school, and church events, going to Iowa Hawkeye football games, and just hanging out together with our families.
Welcome to 3rd grade! I am excited to be part of the Greenwood family. This is my 15th year of teaching, I have taught preschool through 3rd grade. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education from Iowa State University, and a Masters Degree from Drake University in Teacher Leadership. My endorsements are in special education and reading.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband Rich, reading, going to yoga and the beach. I have two grown children, Seth is married to Jacy and they have three children, Skyelynn (7), Aldo (4), and Luna 9 months. My daughter Ayla is in graduate school at Drake University, she is pursuing Masters Degrees in School Counseling and Mental Health.

My name is Amanda Moore. I serve as a first grade teacher at Greenwood Elementary School. I have been teaching for 14 years, and this is my fifth year at Greenwood Elementary. I previously was a teacher at Wright Elementary in Des Moines. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in reading from Iowa State University. I recently earned my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an ELL endorsement from Buena Vista University.
Hello everyone! My name is Carrie Motter and I am a kindergarten teacher here at Greenwood. I graduated from the University of Iowa and received my Masters in Education from Morningside. I am in my 34th year of teaching which has included experience in teaching all grades from Kindergarten through Fifth. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family. I have four children and six grandchildren so I keep pretty busy!
My name is Jessica Nelson. I serve as a special education teacher for Greenwood Elementary School. I started my teaching career in special education at an elementary in Waterloo, IA, then onto an elementary school in Rochester, MN. I have taught at Greenwood for one year and truly love it. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with literacy and special education minors from the University of Northern Iowa.
My husband, Michael, and I live in Clive. We are expecting a little girl in November of 2017. In my free time, I love to read, go to the movies, and spend time with my family. I enjoy all of the adventures that occur during a school day as a teacher and look forward to more and more adventures!
My name is Molly Petersen. I serve as a first grade teacher for Greenwood Elementary School. I have been teaching first grade for the Des Moines Public Schools for the past 18 years at Greenwood. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement as well as a master’s degree in curriculum development with a K-12 English Language Learner endorsement.
My name is Jill Roehrick. This is my 16th year teaching for Des Moines Public Schools and my fifth year at Greenwood. I graduated from Grand View College in 2001 with a K-8 Elementary Education degree and endorsements in Reading and English/Language Arts. I am finishing my master’s degree in Elementary Leadership through Iowa State, although I am passionate about all University of Iowa athletics. Go Hawks!!
My roots are in this neighborhood, and I attended Hubbell, Callanan and Roosevelt schools. I have been married for 28 years to my husband, John, who is a firefighter. We have two grown sons, Joshua, 27, and Jeremy, 22. Joshua is a pharmacist and married to Cally, who is an oncology nurse. Jeremy is a senior at Iowa State University, studying physical therapy. In my free time, I love to read, cook and spend quality time with family and friends.
My name is Nikki Thies, and I am in my 13th year in education! My passion is teaching; I love what I do. I have spent nine years in the classroom and four years as an instructional coach. I currently teach fifth grade, serve as a demonstration teacher for the district, a mentor, and a member of Greenwood Elementary’s Tier I team. In my free time, I enjoy reading and shopping!
